Alcohol is a suspected factor in a two-vehicle crash that sent one man and one woman to a Billings hospital with serious injuries around 10 p.m. Monday in Billings, according to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Jared Delaney.
The woman was driving eastbound on First Avenue North in a Subaru Outback that was occupied by four total people, including the driver. Delaney said the woman drove onto the center divider near the gate two entrance to MetraPark and moved into the oncoming lanes.
The Subaru side swiped a Ford pickup that was hauling a trailer. Three people were inside the truck wearing seat belts and received minor injuries from airbag deployment, Delaney said.
The Subaru came to a rest in the westbound lanes of First Avenue North. The pickup jackknifed and came to rest on the sidewalk of the westbound lanes.
The man and woman in the front seat of the Subaru received serious injuries and were transported to a Billings hospital by ambulance.
Delaney said alcohol is considered a factor in the crash. Troopers found multiple open alcohol containers inside the Subaru.
The westbound lanes of First Avenue North were closed just west of the Dick Johnson bridge while troopers investigated the crash. Tow trucks began work around 11:45 p.m. to clear the scene. Delaney estimated the road would reopen by 1 a.m. Tuesday morning
