BUSBY — A near head-on crash killed two residents of Lame Deer on Monday afternoon.
According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the 26-year-old man and 24-year-old woman, whose names have not been released, were traveling east on HWY 212 in a 2006 Pontiac Montana minivan.
For unknown reasons, the minivan lost control and left the eastbound lane, entering the oncoming lane.
They collided with a 2019 GMC Sierra pickup truck hauling a U-Haul trailer, the patrol said.
Both the man and woman in the minivan were pronounced dead at the scene. It's unknown if they were wearing seatbelts, and it was unclear to investigators who was driving.
The driver of the pickup was a 47-year-old man from Hardin and the passenger was a 20-year-old man from Vicksburg, MS.
Both were taken to the IHS hospital in Crow Agency with non-life-threatening injuries.
Road conditions at the time were described as bare with ice patches.
Alcohol, drugs, and speed are not suspected factors in the crash.
Big Horn County Coroner Daryl Nordquist said his office is waiting to notify family members before the names of the victims are released.
