BILLINGS — For much of eastern Montana, Thursday will be another mostly dry and warmer than average day for the region.

Unsettled weather with accompanying cold fronts will move in from the west Thursday and Friday.

Expect gusty winds across the region, cooler temperatures, isolated rain showers in the lower elevations and snow showers in the mountains.

A High Wind Watch has been posted for the front range of the Rockies in northwest Montana for late Thursday night through Friday night. Sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph will be common along with gusts up to 60 and 75 mph at times.

A deeper Pacific trough of low pressure will bring cooler temperatures and more widespread rain and snow showers to the state over the weekend.

The forecast for Billings

Today: Increasing clouds, southwest winds 5 to 15 mph, and a warm high of 69.

Tonight: Still mild with a 50% chance of rain showers and a low of 42.

Friday: Mostly sunny, west winds 15 to 25 mph and an average high of 60.
