BILLINGS – We go from warm and dry pattern to a cooler and windy weekend. That increases the risk of wildfires.
With the recent warm and dry weather drying out grasses combined with a significant increase in wind, there is an elevated fire risk for Thursday through Saturday. Wind-driven agricultural and open burning may become difficult to control.
Even though clouds increase a bit Wednesday temperatures will warm to the mid-to-upper 60s with a few low 70s possible. Winds will be light.
There will be a chance of mainly mountain showers Wednesday and Thursday.
Thursday will become a little windier with slightly cooler temperatures. Highs will be mainly mid-to-lower 60s with a mix of clouds and sun.
Stronger winds will mix down to the surface on Friday and especially on Saturday. There are signals winds could reach 40 to 50 mph gusts Saturday.
