BILLINGS — Hot and dry conditions combined with afternoon and evening wind to increase fire risk for the holiday.

Happy Labor Day! High temperatures Monday will range from the upper 80s to mid 90s. Expect plenty of sun with light winds to start.

Winds will increase with an approaching cold front in the afternoon and evening, although the risk of rain and thunderstorms looks low. However, an isolated storm is possible.

The record high for Billings for the date Monday is 99° set back in 1998. So, it may not be a record setter, but in the neighborhood.

After the cold front passes through, winds will subside through the evening and overnight hours. Lows drop mainly to the 50s.

Cooler but sunny and dry with lighter winds Tuesday. Highs will be mainly in the 80s to about 90.

High temperatures return Wednesday to the upper 80s to upper 90s before cooler and unsettled weather by the end of the work week.

Billings forecast:

Labor Day… Sunny and very warm with a high near 95. Light West wind early turns gusty during the afternoon evening from the North.

Monday night… Clear with a low around 57, and winds become light.

Tuesday… Sunny once again, but cooler. About 87 for the high temperature.
