KALISPELL — A Northwest Montana woman has headed south to help out in the wake of Hurricane Dorian.
Linda Conners of Kalispell is a volunteer with the American Red Cross who has been deployed to Raleigh, North Carolina to help with relief efforts.
Conners said she started volunteering with the Red Cross after Hurricane Harvey struck Texas, where she’s originally from.
She said that volunteering with the Red Cross allows her to give back to those desperately needing help.
She said right now Red Cross volunteers are doing everything they can to provide support for the local residents in the Raleigh area.
"There have been a number of rescues that have had to occur, there was a significant amount of damage due to tornadoes yesterday, earlier in the day," Conners said.
"There are some roads between here and the coast and there are a number of people without power along the coast,” she added.
Conners also said that the Red Cross is in desperate need of blood donations for disaster areas. She's one of five Montana volunteers helping with hurricane relief efforts.
The American Red Cross is mobilizing more than 1,600 trained volunteers from all over the country, 110 emergency response vehicles, and 99 tractor-trailer loads full of relief supplies, including cots, blankets and 63,000 ready-to-eat meals.
