Man facing attempted deliberate homicide charge after Kalispell shooting

KALISPELL – A man is facing attempted deliberate homicide charges after a Friday evening shooting in Kalispell.

Kalispell Chief of Police Doug Overman said Matthew David Smith, of Whitefish, is being held behind bars in the Flathead County jail.

Kalispell Police were called to a home on the southwest side of the city shortly before 5:45 p.m. on Friday and arrived to find a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

Chief Overman said on Friday that the victim was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center with “life-threatening” injuries where he was in critical condition.
