GLENDIVE – A 22-year-old Helena woman has been crowned Miss Montana 2019.
The Miss Montana Scholarship Program announced Mo Shea was crowned Saturday in Glendive.
The daughter of Jim and Kathy Shea, she was Miss Montana’s Outstanding Teen when she was 15 and this was her first time back to compete for Miss Montana, the organization said.
Shea graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Montana in cellular and molecular neuroscience and plans to earn a medical degree specializing in dermatology.
Her platform at the scholarship competition was “Love the Skin You’re In: Skin Cancer Prevention.”
While at college, Shea led a successful effort to get the University of Montana certified as a SKin Smart Campus by the National Council for Skin Cancer Prevention.
She won a $5,100 scholarship and will compete in the Miss America Pageant.
The first runner up was Haylie Storlie of Glendive.
Also at the event, Karsen Murphy was crowned Miss Montana Outstanding Teen 2019. Murphy, 17 of Glendive, won a $1,100 scholarship and a trip to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen in July.
