The person was hanging on to a root after the loose ground he was climbing slid. The incident took place near Logging Creek Campground in the Little Belt Mountains, according to BRVFD.

A team from Belt Fire climbed to a safe location and determined crews could not reach the person without specialized equipment.

The 40th Helicopter Squadron out of Malmstrom Air Force Base then conducted an air rescue and the person was brought to safe ground.

The man was checked out by BRVFD, who determined he was not injured.

Responding agencies including BRVFD, MAFB, Belt Ambulance, the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, Cascade County Search and Rescue, Mercy Flight, and Great Falls Emergency Services.

In a Facebook post, BRVFD thanked “the crew of Blade 61 and all those who were behind the scenes to make such a great rescue in the dark of night in a rugged, mountainous area!”
