ST. MARIE – Firefighters in northeastern Montana battled a structure fire Wednesday that briefly re-ignited Thursday morning.
Crews from St. Marie and Long Run were first called to a fire at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour before beginning mop-up around 6:30 p.m.
Valley County Sheriff Tom Boyer told MTN News fire units monitored the structure Wednesday night.
The fire re-ignited for a short time Thursday morning, possibly from insulation in the roof, according to Boyer.
No injuries were reported, however, a vehicle was a total loss. The house, which was severely damaged, was unoccupied.
While the cause of the fire is unknown, Boyer said it is suspicious. The Valley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
Boyer called the response “excellent” and praised the dispatch team.
“Big kudos to our professional telecommunications team that handle a multitude of calls regarding this incident, including managing other requests for service at the same time,” he stated. “Appropriate as we are acknowledging telecommunications week.”
St. Marie is about 19 miles north of Glasgow.
