BELGRADE – On Saturday evening, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office held a community discussion about domestic violence.

Gallatin County Deputy Sheriff Colter Metcalf came up with the idea for the event because he wants to be able to help community members learn the signs of domestic violence, the issues law enforcement face when dealing with it, and what to do when you see signs of domestic violence.

“It is so critical that the community understands that domestic violence is everywhere,” said Metcalf. “We have to understand that it can be in any parking lot. It can be in any home. We just have to keep our eyes open and be attuned to what is happening around us. And if the community can help law enforcement by giving us a call and keep their eyes open, we can do a really good job at combating this very serious issue in our town.”

The event was free and open to the public at the River Rock Community Center. The Sheriff’s Office says it hopes to host more discussions like this in the future.
