HELENA – City Manager Ana Cortez confirmed to MTN that Fire Chief Mark Emert resigned his position Friday.

According to the city’s website, Emert had been chief since January 2016.

Cortez said Deputy Chief Ken Wood will serve as interim chief.

She added Assistant Chief Mike Chambers will also assist with duties until Wood returns from time off.

In an email, Cortez wrote the change is sudden and, “We wish him the best as his excellent professional path continues.”
