MISSOULA – A man was taken to the hospital Thursday morning with what are reported as serious injuries after being hit by a car in Missoula.
Missoula Police Department spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh said the man was hit by a vehicle in the 3000 block of South Russell Street — in the area of the YMCA — at around 7:30 a.m.
Welsh said the man who was hit was near a crosswalk and was crossing the road when he was hit by a vehicle that was being driven by a man in his 20s.
The driver is cooperating with authorities and an investigation into the incident is underway.
Police issued a MEANS alert at 8:15 a.m. advising that South Russell Street is closed in the area of the accident and that drivers should avoid the area.
Sgt. Welsh tells MTN News that the road is expected to be closed for a couple of hours while investigators try to piece together what happened.
