BILLINGS — For more than a decade, Steepworld in Billings has been home of the Montana Bouldering Championships.

For the first time this Saturday, at the business's new location, the competition will be a sanctioned USA Climbing event.

Partnering with USA Climbing adds a youth competition to the event that is a qualifier for Regionals and Divisionals.

Owner Jim Rott said people travel from all over for this special climbing day, and that it's a day of healthy competition, with a lot of good energy and a fantastic atmosphere.

"Coming from Sheridan, that is one of the places that is outside of the state of Montana. We have participants from Missoula, from Bozeman, from Helena and Great Falls. There's a lot of energy at these events for sure. Kids, it's great camaraderie, individualized sports tend to have great camaraderie even the fiercest rivals will be hooting and hollering at each other and that's one of the fun things about it," said Rott.

Youth climbing runs from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday morning and adult finals start at 6:30 p.m..
