BILLINGS — The Northern International Livestock Exposition started as an event to showcase the livestock industry and young ranchers continued the tradition on Sunday afternoon.
Future Farmers of America kids and members of 4-H showed their best at the Junior Fed Market Steer Show at the MetraPark Expo Center.
The NILE started in 1967 with Billings's Public Auction Yards hosting the first event that showcased the region's livestock industry.
The NILE started on Saturday with a week's worth of events, which has always included the young ranchers.
"These kids buying these calves at a very young age, it's a year long project of them feeding these calves and preparing them for this moment," said Shelby Shaw, NILE Livestock Manager. "The NILE is more than a rodeo. we're a stock show as well and we've been going for 52 years."
The animals will be sold on Monday at the NILE.
