Mouth guards needed to protect teeth

BILLINGS — Young football players had a chance to get some help with obtaining mouth guards before practice starts.

Benion Lambourne Orthodontic sold mouth guards and then helped the kids make sure they fit properly on Saturday.

The mouth guards are sold at a discount and the money collected goes to the Yellowstone Youth Football League.

Mouthguards protect teeth and help prevent concussions. They are available for football players, wrestlers and hockey players.

Dentists say it can even help protect those playing baseball and basketball.

"We recommend it for all sports,” said Dr. Chad Lambourne, owner of Benion Lambourne Orthodontics. “That would be ideal. We know that’s probably unrealistic for some kids. Football, wrestling, hockey require a mouth guard. A lot of times the referees have to see it on the helmet to allow the kids to play. Each sport is a little different on the requirement but it's a benefit in any contact sport for sure."

Mouth guards are still available at a discount but Benion Lambourne dentists will not be able to help with the fitting.
