BILLINGS-
This week marks one of the biggest of the year for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Yellowstone County.
Their BIG Event usually takes the form of an interactive gala.
But like so many, this year, the gala has been transformed into a virtual auction, with some big prizes to help keep cover the costs of the program.
At the current time there are over 30 children waiting to be partnered with a "BIG".
The organization is always accepting applications for both "Bigs" and "Littles"
On average, to start and support a new match the cost is around $1,200.
Executive Director Amy Riesinger said social distancing and remote schooling stresses create an even greater need for building positive relationships.
"For their Big to be able to check in with them a couple of times a week, to send them a text, send them a note, call them on the phone. It gives them an opportunity to think about something outside surroundings, their immediate issues if they're having them. Or it can just be fun time that they spend with a friend," Riesinger said.
The virtual auction opens Monday, February 8th at noon and bidding will close at noon on Sunday, February 14th.
Over 25 different auction items were donated by the community, ranging from a photo package with Santa Claus, a wine tasting adventure, to a vacation at The Coeur d'Alene Resort.
There is a donation match campaign taking place right now as well.
