The Art House Cinema and Pub and the Babcock Theatre are allowing groups of families and friends to rent out a theater and choose a movie for private viewing.

Jacob Mckenzie, operations director for the Art House and Babcock Theatre, said Tuesday morning that in May they weren't able to accommodate many events due to new movies coming to the theater.

"When we have new movies, we have to show that new movie seven days a week, which limits our event times. But, because we are showing classic movies and new movies aren't really coming out to theaters, we are able to take those extra time slots and reinvest them into the city," said Mckenzie.

Mckenzie said that now, both theaters are seeing more small and large groups opting to rent out the theater for a movie.

"We have had several families and several friend groups that what to see the latest and greatest movie. We have the Babcock Theatre at 700 seats, so people can socially distance. We have had a lot of fun seeing the different variety of families and friends and groups that come in to see movies," said Mckenzie.

Mckenzie said that group sizes are limited to 25 people. Those 25 people will have the entire theater to themselves for the movie.

Pricing for theater rentals at the Babcock start at $200 for members and $250 for non members. Mckenzie said rentals will include arrival half an hour before the movie and 15 minutes after.
