BILLINGS – A blood shortage has inspired the 167th World Wide Blood Drive.

Some in Billings participated in the life-saving effort on Sunday.

Vitalant needs 150 to 200 units each day just for the hospitals in the Billings area.

The International “We Love You Foundation” hosted the drive.

The foundation started in the 1990s and works to help people in need.

“It’s difficult to find people who want to give,” Said Alejandro Soto, a member of the We Love You Foundation. “About 20 volunteers have gathered to donate blood. One person can donate enough blood to save three lives.”

“We’re entering the summer a little bit short,” said Erin Baker, Vitalant donor & recruitment manager. “Every unit helps. When you have organizations like this come and offer to help us get people in, we are just so excited to partner with them.”

Vitalant will have Montana’s Biggest Blood Drive in July.
