BILLINGS – There’s a new boat launch in Billings. The Blue Creek Fishing access boat ramp will be located on the south side of the river off of South Billings Boulevard.

The property was purchased by the Yellowstone River Parks Association, who collaborated with another nonprofit, Our Montana, the Montana Department of Justice’s Natural Resource Damage Program, Montana Fish Wildlife and Billings Search and Rescue.

The launch was paid for with money from damage done by the 2011 ExxonMobil Silvertip pipeline oil spill that happened on the Yellowstone River near Laurel. The Yellowstone River Recreation Plan allocated$2.3 million of the $12 million ExxonMobil settlement that resulted from that spill.

It’s set up to be used as a fishing access site and boat launch, allowing people great access to the river. However, the public is reminded to be cautious because of the high water that is expected this time of the year.
