BILLINGS- A 16-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital Monday night after he was struck by a van while running out of an alley near Pioneer Park in Billings.
The call came just after 7 p.m. on Third Street between Avenues D and E. Billings Police Sgt. Brett Becker said the boy was hit by the Volkswagen van, dragged and run over.
The driver, a 46-year-old man, was heading to work and apparently obeying the 25-mile-an-hour speed limit, according to police and witnesses.
Becker said the boy appeared to suffer a severe head injury and broken bones, although no official condition report was immediately available from the hospital or medical responders.
The driver will submit for blood tests, which s standard procedure, but Becker said police don’t suspect alcohol is a factor.
Third Street West between Avenues E and D will be shut down for several hours while investigators comb the scene.
