BILLINGS – Support for cancer patients can be very important, and some local cancer survivors recently enjoyed a special event when the Billings Clinic hosted a cancer survivors picnic at ZooMontana.
The picnic comes a week after National Cancer Survivor’s Day on June 2.
“Just to be strong in our walk,” said Lisa Demarais, a survivor who spoke at the picnic. “Life happens for some of us, as I’m finding out, that’s cancer. It’s what we do with it. I know the importance of finding support in the community, whether it be the gym, getting together with some girlfriends, through Bible studies and what Billings Clinic is offering here. To go through it with other people so we don’t feel alone.”
“We welcome them to this event and interact with our entire care team,” said Rhonda Grandwohl, director of the Billings Clinic Cancer Center. “We have our physicians, our nurses, our radiation techs, people throughout the entire cancer center, the different service lines, genetic counselors. Just the whole team that takes care of someone with cancer. This is a great time for us to celebrate our patients who’ve had cancer, who are going through treatment or completed treatment. Just a wonderful way for us to kind of see them outside of the clinic atmosphere and to celebrate with them and have this special time together.”
About 100 came out for the Cancer Survivors Picnic.
