BILLINGS – Saturday is National Drug Take Back Day and in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency, the local Billings Elks Lodge offered area residents a chance to keep expired and unused drugs off the streets.
The annual prescription drug take back day offers a safe place to dispose of the medications.
At noon, the Elks Lodge had already collected seven boxes.
This event keeps pounds of drugs, both narcotics and others, off the streets and out of waterways.
“We acknowledge that opioid addiction is a growing problem around the world and in the United States especially. We see that unfortunately growing in the city of Billings. So really we are doing our part to diminish the demand for opioids here in Billings,” said Eric Johnson, Billings Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler.
The prescription drug take back day is a nationwide event. Every year it collects tons of unused and expired medications across the U.S.
