BILLINGS- The Billings city/county 911 call center has failed to receive numerous emergency calls, so authorities are authorizing a backup number.

If your 911 call does not go through, immediately call 406-657-8200 to report your emergency, Billings Fire Chief Bill Rash said in a news release. This number will direct you to the Billings Police Department.

Direct all questions about 911 service to the Billings Fire Department at 657-8423.

Verizon Wireless, which administers the emergency call service, is working on a solution.

The Bozeman area is having a similar problems, according to Gallatin County spokesman Whitney Bermes.
