Montana state health officials reported 134 new COVID-19 cases and one new death on Thursday, according to the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking map.
Gallatin County reported 47 new cases, while Yellowstone County added 45 new cases. New cases were also reported in 12 other Montana counties. (See chart below.)
One new death was reported in Yellowstone County. The total deaths statewide now stands at 35.
RiverStone Health issued this press release Thursday morning:
RiverStone Health, Yellowstone County’s public health department, for the third time this week, reports an additional COVID-19 related death stemming from the outbreak at Canyon Creek Memory Care.
Early Thursday, July 16, a man in his 70s passed away at Canyon Creek Memory Care.
To protect the privacy of the gentleman and his family, RiverStone Health will not release further information about the death.
This latest death in Yellowstone County is reflected on today’s state COVID-19 tracking map. Since Monday, July 6, a total of nine residents from Canyon Creek have died.
“Each passing related to this virus is a tragic reminder of the serious nature of COVID-19. We wish this gentleman’s family peace and comfort as they grieve,” said John Felton, Yellowstone County Health Officer and RiverStone Health President and CEO.
To date, 629 Yellowstone County residents have been infected with COVID-19 and 14 have died

The total cumulative coronavirus cases statewide is now reported at 2,231.
The total number of active cases now stand at 1,226 statewide, according to state health officials. The number of recoveries stand at 970.
Yellowstone County has 440 active cases. Gallatin County now has 284 active cases, and Lake County has 69 active cases. Missoula County reports 60 active cases, and Big Horn County has 55 active cases.
There are 37 people hospitalized, an increase of three during the previous 24-hour reporting period.
The number of tests increased by 4,082 for a total of 127,840.
Cases by Day
The number of cases reported Thursday is the second highest single day total reported in Montana since the pandemic began, and follows one day after the state set a new record of 145 cases reported in a single day.
