BILLINGS – Dancers are set for some healthy competition and fun to help seniors.
Big Sky Senior Services held its kickoff for the fourth annual Dancing with the Big Sky Stars at the Movement Montana Arts Academy.
Professional dancers will work with local celebrities to form six teams.
Harvey Singh, Dave Austin, Justin Duke, Joanie Swords, Margaret Needham and Karen Black will compete for the mirror ball trophy.
“They probably put in at least 25 to 40 hours of practice time before the event,” said Denise Armstrong, executive director of Big Sky Senior Services. “There’s a lot of pride in accomplishing this.”
“It was a challenge,” said Ploumi Saliaris, who won in 2018. “It was a great pleasure and an adventure for me.”
Big Sky Senior Services helps about 300 seniors to stay in their own homes.
“There are a lot of local seniors that live alone and are estranged and don’t have any of their family members to help them out,” Armstrong said. “Our organization becomes that family for those homebound seniors.”
“I’m honored to be here to support this program,” Saliaris said. “It’s very fulfilling to see the smiles on the elders, these seniors that we’re helping in the local community.”
The competition will be held on April 12 at Hilton Double Tree Inn.
