LANCASTER, N.Y. (WKBW) — Riley Lewandowski is a go-getter.
“She’s been really nervous, but once she got here today, she’s so proud of herself,” said Gina Lewandowski, Riley’s mother.
The nearly seven-year-old girl has already written a book. It’s about the blood condition she has, ITP . The rare disease affects her platelets. She has to go to Roswell Park every once in a while to receive treatment.
Sunday, she was reading her book to dozens of friends and family at her very own fundraiser.
“It means so much to me because I get to raise a lot of money and I just get to do a lot of good things,” said Riley.
The fundraiser was all Riley’s idea. Her mother was helping out another fundraiser when Riley wanted to do something special. So, Riley and her family put together an event at Skoob’s in Lancaster to support her two favorite organizations.
“ Courage for Carly is a foundation that does fun stuff with kid that have medical problems and Roswell does a lot of other good stuff for a lot of people and their sicknesses,” said the six year old.
Over 113 baskets were donated for a raffle. In total, Riley helped raise around $20,000.
“She was looking around and she was like, ‘Oh my God, I did all of this for the organization that helps me live basically,” added Gina.
