Bill to protect East Rosebud Creek in Montana clears Congress, headed to Trump's desk

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A bipartisan bill to protect 20 miles of East Rosebud Creek in south-central Montana has cleared the U.S. Senate and is awaiting President Trump's signature.

The Senate version was sponsored by both of Montana's senators, Republican Steve Daines and Democrat Jon Tester. Montana Republican Rep. Greg Gianforte sponsored the House version, which was already approved.

The three lawmakers made the joint announcement Wednesday.

The legislation would designate the stretch of the East Rosebud as "wild and scenic," aimed at preserving waterways with cultural and recreational value for future generations. The bill would not affect private land, according to the Montana delegation.
