High Yellowstone River overwhelming water system, flooding into Billings neighborhood

Posted: Updated:

BILLINGS - A South Billings neighborhood is still dealing with flood problems from recent record flows of the Yellowstone River.

City workers checked on equipment Wednesday, and they said and the system is working.

However, with the high level on the Yellowstone River, water is backing up to the ditches and onto the streets, which has rankled residents.

Much of the flooding is on Cambridge Drive near McDougal Drive, between King Avenue East and Interstate 90.

According to neighbors, basements in some homes are flooding.

The water on the streets also has made it difficult to park and walk.

One neighbor said it's the worst flooding he's seen on Cambridge more than 20 years.

"The rain actually drained out but with now the river up so high, it's pushing back all that water back into our subdivision,” said Kevin Bochy. “It's the worst I've seen it since the '96 thing. And I would say we were probably up another two feet is where it's been. Obviously you've got drive through it. You've got walk through it. You can't park on the street. It's the worst I've seen it since ‘96."

The city was also repairing a culvert near Jackson Street and King Avenue East, that is not affecting the area near Cambridge.
