Q2 Weather: Warmest day of the year in Billings followed by morning snow

Posted: Updated:

BILLINGS - Welcome to the warmest day of the year so far in Billings.

At 2 p.m. Monday, the temperature soared to 70 degrees and is expected to get into the mid-70s before the day is done. I think you’ll agree we have a pretty good shot at it.

The threat board deals mainly with flooding due to snow melt issues and most of this continues along the Hi-Line.

There is a Flood Warning for the Milk River and small streams around Glasgow

However, we still have a Winter Weather Advisory for Valley and Daniels Counties beginning at 9 p.m. Monday until noon Tuesday.

We could see 2 to 4 inches of snow there in the northeast corner the state.

In the meantime, the Doppler radar shows a line of rain and rain mixing with snow out in western Montana.

All this moisture is streaming onshore in the Great Basin area and will follow the jet stream into Montana overnight.

The computer model shows that we could see some rain moving in the south-central Montana around 1 a.m..

The rain could then change to snow in Yellowstone, Musselshell, Carbon and Big Horn counties, around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, then kick out of the area by afternoon.

The computer models say Billings could pick up another three quarters of an inch of snow. Should we get that much, it will push us over the top for the snowiest winter of all time in Billings.

Tonight: Turning Cloudy with scattered showers and even a slight chance of a thunderstorm late evening. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Low 38 degrees.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy and much colder with a 50 percent chance for snow in the morning then isolated showers in the afternoon. West winds 15 to 25 mph. High 51 degrees.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny and a little bit warmer. West winds 10 to 20 mph. High 54 degrees.
