MISSOULA - The practice and training is over.

Now firefighters from Missoula and all over Western Montana will be working as hard as they can this weekend. Not only keeping their competitors from across the Northwest at bay but raising tens of thousands of dollars for a worthy cause…

This weekend marks the return of the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb, the annual event where firefighters try for their best time up the 70-towering stories of Seattle's Columbia Center.

Everyone is gunning for Missoula firefighter Andy Drobeck, who has dominated this event for years. Drobeck, an accomplished triathlete, finished first again last year at 10-minutes and 58-seconds. That's just under the 11-minute mark which has emerged as the record-setting pace to beat.

He'll be joined on the Missoula Fire team by Ben Brunsvold, who finished second in 2016 and was third overall last year at 11:36.  Montana's firefighters have consistently been top finishers in the event, so they'll be facing some stiff competition on Sunday.

This is the 27th year for the Stairclimb, which raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Last year 2,000 firefighters from 27-states and eight-countries took part.
