Montana Olympian Maggie Voisin welcomed home

Posted: Updated:

WHITEFISH - It was a proud moment for the community of Whitefish on Wednesday as they welcomed back one of their own.

Amid horns, cheering crowds and some help from the Whitefish Fire Department, 19-year-old two-time Olympian Maggie Voisin was welcomed home in style.

She just finished competing in her second winter games in Pyeongchang, South Korea where she placed fourth in Slopestyle.

And in January, Voisin became the first American woman to ever win X Games gold in slopestyle.

The community gathered Wednesday along Central Avenue to mark her homecoming.

Following the “Welcome Home” fire truck ride the community held a hometown celebration for her outside the O’Shaughnessy Center.

Voisin told MTN News she got in Monday night and spent Tuesday and part of Wednesday on the hill with her dad skiing - and the weather as they describe it in the community was a "Bluebird" day.

She says for all those who want to follow in her footsteps and become Olympians to follow their passion despite the sacrifices.

"We come from such a great community and a little resort that is so awesome and I have this deep passion for skiing and for me, how I've gotten to where I am is fully loving what I do and making sacrifices," Voisin said. "Those sacrifices are part of the journey."

Voisin said she still has a lot more to give and she plans to go try out for the Olympics in 2022.

Wednesday's event was put on by Explore Whitefish.
