Posted: Updated:

MILES CITY - After digging through snow to reach a fire hydrant, firefighters extinguished a trailer house fire and saved a family dog Tuesday afternoon in Miles City.

Miles City firefighters arrived at the fire at 2:20 p.m. at 47 Albert trailer court, Chief Branden Stevens said in a release.

No one was home, but the dog was locked in a crate inside the home, Stevens said.

Damage was $50,000, and the cause remains under investigation.

Stevens said the public should be reminded the shovel around fire hydrants because many are buried in snow, including the one needed to put out this blaze.

Miles City Fire Rescue sent two engines, a command tuck and one ambulance. Custer County Volunteer Fire Department also sent two apparatus and additional firefighters.
