Butte firefighters battle large blaze in extreme cold

UPDATE - Fire officials say they do not believe the building was occupied. No injuries are reported at this time. 

BUTTE - Heavy smoke could be seen from a fire at 520 Dakota St. in Butte on Tuesday morning.

The smoke is pouring from one room on the upper floor of a duplex at that address.

It's not known if anyone was home at the time of the fire, or if anyone was injured in the blaze.

Flames could be seen starting to break through the attic of the building as firefighters struggled in the cold temperatures. A vehicle thermometer registered -8 degrees at the scene at approximately 6:15 a.m.

Firefighters not only have to battle the blaze but the extreme cold and water that turns to ice almost immediately in these conditions.
