Couple with ties to Montana identified as plane crash victims

A California couple who own a home in Montana have been identified as the victims of a plane crash near San Diego, Calif.

CBS News 8 reports the pilot of a single-engine Cessna 182 Skylane that crashed Tuesday morning in Santee was identified as Dr. John Longhurst. His wife Cherill was a passenger in the four-seat plane.

Both died in the crash. No one on the ground was injured.

The couple owned homes in Orange County and in Montana. Dr. Longhurst worked at UC Irvine Health, the CBS station reports.

The plane was registered in Darby, Mont.

Two dogs were also in the plane. One later died of its injuries.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
