Search warrant issued in KJ's Nine Mile Roadhouse arson investigation

Posted: Updated:

MISSOULA - The Missoula County Sheriff's Office believes the fire that destroyed a landmark restaurant west of Missoula may not have been an accident.

They’re looking for more clues as they continue their investigation into the blaze that destroyed KJ's Nine Mile Roadhouse Restaurant in December.

Frenchtown firefighters were called to the Roadhouse the evening of December 17 for a report of a structure fire. When they arrived it was inferno. The restaurant was determined to be a complete loss.

The MCSO obtained search warrants naming the owners of the restaurant, Kella and Scott Blanke. The search warrant obtained by MTN News sought GPS, call and text records for both Kella and Scott.

In the court documents, the sheriff’s detectives listed arson as a potential cause along with a violation of a protection order. The search warrant reveals Kella has a restraining order naming her husband. Detectives told the judge that Kella believes that order was violated the night before the fire.

The search warrant indicates Scott’s pickup truck was seen at the restaurant the night before and the night of the fire. Kella told authorities she left the restaurant shortly before the fire started.

No charges have been filed against either party at this time.
