Man connected to Wanner murder arrested with guns, drugs in Billings

BILLINGS - The man who owns the home police believe Rory Wanner was killed in was arrested on drug charges on Monday.

Tyler Crawford, 28, made his initial appearance in court on Wednesday on a felony charge of possession of dangerous drugs, as well as two misdemeanor drug charges.

According to court documents, Billings police officers found Crawford slumped over in a vehicle Monday. Crawford had multiple warrants out for his arrest at the time. 

Crawford told officers he had been sleeping in his truck. He granted officers permission to search the vehicle.

Officers found methamphetamine in the vehicle, as well as an AK-47, three loaded magazines and what appeared to be a silencer for the weapon.

Crawford has been implicated in the murder of Billings resident Rory Wanner in the summer of 2017. According to police, Crawford owned the home in which they believe Wanner was beaten to death by two other men.

According to Wanner's girlfriend, Wanner had planned to go to Crawford's house to sell him methamphetamine.

The woman said she knew Wanner to be concerned about the transaction and said he even sent her a text message on the way there saying he was worried about being "set up."

When Wanner never arrived and was never heard from again, his mother contact police.

Wanner's body was found in a shallow grave in Roundup in August.

No one has been arrested for his murder.
