BILLINGS - The Montana Rescue Mission announced Monday the death of Gary Drake, its longest-serving executive director.

Drake died Sunday after fighting a second battle with lymphoma.

"He devoted more than 30 years of his life to aiding the homeless and poor in Billings," public relations director Denise Smith stated in a press release.

Drake began at the MRM as a Board member from 1985 to 1992. He was then hired as the executive director from 1992 to 2010.

In 2010, he became the first development director and then the MRM's special projects director, transitioning back into the development director role until he retired last fall to battle cancer.

"He was one of the most likeable and kind hearted people you will ever meet. His legacy will be continued in the service Montana Rescue Mission gives to those in need of our help," Smith stated.

Drake was 64.
