CASPER, WYO. - A 35-year-old Sheridan, Wyo., man died Sunday when he swerved to miss a deer and rolled his vehicle on Interstate 25 near Casper, Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers said Monday.

John Gallatin was traveling north on I-25 at milepost 184.5 when he swerved to avoid the deer, rolling his 2005 Subaru Forrester four times in a burrow pit, according to troopers.

Gallatin was partially ejected during the rollover and died at the scene. His passenger, Amanda Gallatin, 33 of Sheridan, was thrown from the vehicle and taken to Wyoming Medical Center with serious injuries.

Troopers said the driver and passenger were not properly wearing seat belts.

This is the 116th fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2017 compared to 102 in 2016, 133 in 2015, and 134 in 2014, according to troopers.
