Fake article claims that Montana will face "devastating" winter

Posted: Updated:

GREAT FALLS - Despite what some people are seeing on Facebook, there is no truth to the report that a "cosmic anomaly" will cause record-breaking snowfall in Montana this winter.

The bogus claim originated on a website called React365.com which states meteorologists at "NASA's Charles Darwin Research Facility" announced that record snowfalls will hit the "entire Northwest Corridor," with snow levels predicted to reach 34 feet in January, and winds of up to 120 miles per hour. There is no such place as NASA's Charles Darwin Research Facility.

While Montana is sure to get snow, sometimes a lot of it, and will experience gusty winds, as it does every year - the article is 100% fake.

The bogus article has been widely shared on Facebook, but few people have noticed the disclaimer at the bottom of the website: "This website is an entertainment website, news are created by users. These are humourous news, fantasy, fictional, that should not be seriously taken or as a source of information."

React365 is a site that allows people to create short, fake articles designed to look real in order to fool and/or shock their friends.

All a person has to do is come up with a fake headline, a sentence or two of text, and an image.

As an example, MTN created the following bogus article:
