GREAT FALLS - Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards said Thursday a woman was shot and killed at a residence near Vaughn during a break-in.

At  2:12 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to #25 Four Mile Creek Road for a report that a person was breaking into the residence and the occupant had shot the intruder.

When deputies arrived they confirmed that a woman had been shot and killed.

Edwards said the 42-year-old woman lived in Cascade County, but her name was not released.

Her body was taken to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy.
