Whitefish studying options to fight climate change

Posted: Updated:

WHITEFISH - The mayor and city council in Whitefish recently created a ten-member committee to study climate action options for the city.

What they came up with was a seven-question survey on climate change.

The survey is printed on postcards and available for pick up at the community center, library, city hall and the chamber of commerce. The survey is also available online. When it is completed, community members can turn the survey in at city hall or mail the cards in.

The committee has three main goals, to reduce carbon emission, save taxpayers money and improve sustainability.

Whitefish City Council member and chair of the climate action committee Richard Hildner says this survey is important to fill out to ensure the City Council is moving forward with the community’s best interest in mind.

“Once we have this plan it is definitely not going to be a sit-on-the-shelf plan, but then we'll be looking at the implementation. How do we implement these ideas that we’ve come up with in developing the plan?” Hildner said.
