BILLINGS - The woman who died in a Billings West End house fire over the weekend has been identified as Teresa Fischer, 55 of Billings.

Yellowstone County Deputy Coroner Cliff Mahoney said Wednesday the cause of death was smoke inhalation at a fire at her home at 3509 Lynn Ave. An autopsy was performed Wednesday morning.

Billings firefighters discovered her body Tuesday following a welfare check. Friends had asked authorities to check on her after she had missed a weekly breakfast Sunday morning, according to Billings police.

The fire was accidental and caused by a gas-fueled hot water heater, according to Deputy Fire Marshal Jeff McCullough. Firefighters said the fire likely burned itself out over the weekend.

Three pet cats were also found dead following the fire.
