Montana singer pens touching song for Las Vegas shooting victims

Posted: Updated:

MISSOULA - A Missoula singer says the best way she could cope with the senseless tragedy of the Las Vegas shooting was to put her feelings into song.

Melissa Forrette will now have to decide whether to include the touching composition on a new album she'll be cutting in Nashville next month.

The song, "Wasn't Supposed to Be This Way," is written from the perspective of the victims who suddenly found themselves under fire at the Route 91 Country Music Festival.

Forrette, who had friends at the concert, performed the song live on Eagle 93 and Classic Country The Hawk Tuesday morning. She explained the song is also for the families, first responders, law enforcement and the country music community.

Forrette said it may be "too soon" to include the composition on her album, but she'll consider adding it after seeing how people feel about it in a few weeks.

Forrette was invited to record the album after performing as opening acts for artists like Moe Bandy and John Michael Montgomery during their tours this summer.
