GREAT FALLS - The Salvation Army announced that its retail thrift store on 10th Avenue South in Great Falls will soon close.

The Thrift Store, located at 4910 10th Ave. S., has been owned and operated by the Salvation Army for more than 25 years.

The last day of business will be Tuesday, Oct. 31.

A press release from the organization said that operational expenses have increased, business has dropped in the past year, leading to the closure.

The store’s current employees will be transferred to the store on the west side of town at 616 First Ave. NW.

“Making the decision to close this store and consolidate operations was a difficult one. We’ve been part of the eastside community for decades,” said Major Mark King of the Salvation Army. “However, the success of our community programs depends on the success of the store, and we simply cannot jeopardize those programs.”

Daily shopping and donation hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., through then.

King said that at this time, there are no plans to reopen a store at the 10th Avenue South spot or any another location.

Future possible stores in Great Falls depend on many factors, including economics, location, and resources.
