Montana Made: Diamond Products

HELENA - Cleaning can be a messy task and Diamond Products is making that task not only a little easier for you, but also a little less harsh on the environment.

From mixing and testing to pouring and packaging, this company in Helena does it all; creating concentrated cleaning products from scratch.

“A lot of what we do is fairly basic chemistry,” said Diamond Products President Tom Joehler.

Starting in beakers and ending in buckets, these cleaning products are made in Montana and used beyond the state.

“Probably 80 percent of our products go out through distribution to the surrounding areas, everything from the western Dakotas to eastern Washington,” Joehler said.

Joehler opened his business in 1988 in the basement of his home. With a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s in environmental science, he has a passion for creating quality supplies.

“I have always had a feeling that we need to make products that work, that’s kind of my first premise. But the second thing is that they are as environmentally conscience as they can be,” he said. “They are all concentrated. That’s one of the things that we’ve really stressed, is making products as concentrated as we can and that in turn makes them environmentally friendly.”

While most of the 100 products offered are sold in the hospitality industry, there is a factory direct store right up front "so anybody can come in and buy products that they need,” Joehler said.

Joehler worked for Diamond Product’s predecessor, Columbia Chemical, and when they were forced to close due to financial problems he had a choice.

“I Knew the products were good and it was a logical choice for me to make as opposed to me moving to LA or some place, and I love Montana and so I started out in my house,” he said.

Even some of the raw materials used to make the products come from a distributor in Billings.

Keeping this business in Montana was important to Joehler.

“Any time you can bring jobs and money back in, that keeps the whole economy going, that keeps everything going,” he said.

Diamond Products also provides industrial appliance rentals and other services. Click here to learn more about all the products and services the company offers.
