BILLINGS -

A Montana State University graduate is now leading the anti-ISIS coalition.

The U.S. Department of Defense announced Thursday that leadership was reassigned to Lt. Gen. Paul E. Funk II in the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve operations.

Task Force Spokesman Army Col. Ryan Dillon said that while the leadership has changed, the U.S. led-coalition “mission to defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria has not.”

Funk, who was born in Texas, graduated from Montana State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications Speech.

According to his biography posted on the Fort Hood website, Funk was born in Fort Hood, Texas, and graduated from Fort Knox High School.

Funk has been deployed five times and has led soldiers in combat during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
