Billings seniors recognize local veterans on 911 Remembrance Day

Posted: Updated:

BILLINGS - Seniors at Sweetwater Retirement Community made gift baskets for five veterans at Ponderosa Pines Health Care in Billings Monday for 911 Remembrance Day.

The group of seniors dropped off the gifts to the veterans and thanked them for their service.

The veterans were very appreciative, even moved, to receive the recognition.

The seniors told the veterans it's because of people like them that this country won't back down under threat or attack.

"I went in the service in 1970,” said Steve Berg, who grew up in Eastern Montana. “I served in Vietnam. I'm proud to have served for this country and things like this are very much appreciated."

Berg said the anniversary of the 911 attacks is particularly hard for him and his fellow veterans, but gifts and visits like they received from the seniors make the difficult times easier.
