Talen back in as Colstrip plants operator

Posted: Updated:
BILLINGS -

After stating in January that it wanted out of operating the Colstrip power plants by mid 2018, Talen Energy now says it will continue to operate the coal power plants.

Talen is part owner of two of the Colstrip plants and manages all four.

According to Puget Sound Energy, one of the Colstrip plant owners, Talen recently rescinded its letter to resign as an operator.

Puget Sound spokesman Grant Ringell says since Talen has decided to continue,  there is no need to find a new operator.

Talen spokesman Todd Martin said the company has no additional information to share at this time.

Ringell says the Talen decision has no effect on the closure of Colstrip units one and two, scheduled to be shut down in 2022.
