A pair of eastern Montana airports is among the facilities to receive federal funding, according to a press release from U.S. Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) on Monday.

Billings Logan International Airport has been tabbed to receive $1.57 million to fund an expansion to the existing terminal.

According to the press release, the money will go toward completing the three phases of an expansion that will bring the airport into Federal Aviation Administration design standards.

Phase one of the project includes preliminary engineering in an effort to improve the movement of passengers and baggage throughout the terminal.

The Dawson Community Airport in Glendive was awarded a grant worth $122,000 to fund the design phase of a 2,700 square foot terminal building expansion.

The project aims to improve movement of passengers through the gate holding area.

This project will also fund the installation of a wind cone navigational aid to improve safety and provide pilots with critical airfield information, according to the press release.

The Bert Mooney Airport in Butte and the Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell were also selected to receive grants worth a combined $3.3 million.

“Montana airports play a critical role in our communities,” said Daines in the press release. “This funding will make a big difference in keeping our airports in good shape for current and future use.”

The total amount of federal grants obtained for Montana airports is about $5 million.

“Montana’s airports bring business and travelers to our state, strengthening our economy and creating jobs,” said U.S. Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT). “I’m pleased to work with all our local airports to help secure these critical resources that will help Montana’s economy soar to new heights.”
